Big Chill Retreat 2019

Date(s) - 10/04/2019 - 10/06/2019
4:00 pm

Duncan Gray Center
1530 Way Road - Canton, MS 39046

Big Chill is a retreat for creators of children’s books — both writers and illustrators. Make time to write and create among supportive colleagues in a bucolic setting. In a new feature this year, freelance editor Catherine Frank will join us on-site for two teaching sessions and, for those who are quick to register, critiques of query letters. As in the past, we will offer distance critiques by editors and a designer. (DEADLINE has passed for critiques, but we still have slots to participate in  on-site activities).

As you register, you will choose a group (based on whether your critique submission — or work in progress — is for Middle Grade, Young Adult, or is a Picture Book). By the end of August you will get contact information for the members of your assigned group so you can circulate electronic versions of your manuscripts among yourselves prior to the retreat.

Big Chill begins late-afternoon on Friday, Oct. 4, and runs until late morning Sunday on Oct 6. *Day passes are now available.

You will receive your paid critique(s) at check-in and spend the weekend considering ways to revise your current project and contemplate what’s next.

For more information, read information here. Further questions? Email Cheryl ( or Sarah (

Big Chill Registration will begin on July 15 at 7 a.m. CST. The Deadline for Manuscripts to be submitted for paid critique is August 20. (DEADLINE has passed).
